Something people really didn't seem to understand during the planning process was our choice to have a tuxedo-free and matching-dress-free wedding. Of all my offbeat choices, it was something that nobody could fathom. There are always going to be things in the process that others won't share your vision for, but when the day comes and they see it all come together, they finally get it. I usually avoided talking to people about having the groomsmen wear cardigans because it always seemed to be met with furrowed brows and confusion. When they all went shopping together and were all in line to buy their outfits, the cashier asked what the outfits were for, she was completely bewildered when they told her it was for a wedding party. "But... they're just sweaters," she questioned. Oh ye of little faith. It's only a sweater until you put a boutonniere on it, then it's the focal point of a pretty dapper ensemble.
The bridesmaids were told to get whatever style of dress they wanted, as long as it was blue or yellow. While the guys needed very specific instructions on what to buy, the girls had no trouble expressing their own style while staying true to the theme.
Sara and Janelle both got convertible dresses (which make awesome bridesmaid dresses), Sara's is from the Victoria's Secret catalog, and Janelle's is from American Apparel.

My sister, Meghan picked up her dress from Nordstrom. She lives in Hawaii and while she was shopping for dresses, she was picture messaging me all the potential choices on her phone. Technology is awesome.

My oldest sister, Anna channeled Jennifer Aniston cerca '97 (in a good way) with this simple cotton dress, perfect for the triple digit weather that day.
