Professional Pics are in!

This one is my favorite. We had become so dehydrated from taking pictures in the park, we demanded large cups of water as soon as we got to the house. The caterers brought cute little clear plastic cups for us to drink out of, but instead we opted for the beer pong style cup, so people knew it was party time.

Recap 2: Fashion and such

Something people really didn't seem to understand during the planning process was our choice to have a tuxedo-free and matching-dress-free wedding. Of all my offbeat choices, it was something that nobody could fathom. There are always going to be things in the process that others won't share your vision for, but when the day comes and they see it all come together, they finally get it. I usually avoided talking to people about having the groomsmen wear cardigans because it always seemed to be met with furrowed brows and confusion. When they all went shopping together and were all in line to buy their outfits, the cashier asked what the outfits were for, she was completely bewildered when they told her it was for a wedding party. "But... they're just sweaters," she questioned. Oh ye of little faith. It's only a sweater until you put a boutonniere on it, then it's the focal point of a pretty dapper ensemble.

The bridesmaids were told to get whatever style of dress they wanted, as long as it was blue or yellow. While the guys needed very specific instructions on what to buy, the girls had no trouble expressing their own style while staying true to the theme.
Sara and Janelle both got convertible dresses (which make awesome bridesmaid dresses), Sara's is from the Victoria's Secret catalog, and Janelle's is from American Apparel.

My sister, Meghan picked up her dress from Nordstrom. She lives in Hawaii and while she was shopping for dresses, she was picture messaging me all the potential choices on her phone. Technology is awesome.

My oldest sister, Anna channeled Jennifer Aniston cerca '97 (in a good way) with this simple cotton dress, perfect for the triple digit weather that day.

Recap number 1: The Flowers

Since the wedding, I haven't been an active updater on any internet forum, but I suppose it's time for me to stop lazily lurking and start sharing. So I don't get overwhelmed, I'm doing wedding recaps in small portions. A portion of the wedding that I thought went really well was the floral arrangements. Two weeks before the wedding the florist called me and said that the weather was preventing daffodils from flourishing and she was going use a substitute flower, but promised that the flowers would be beautiful. I was a little bummed about not having daffodils, but didn't want to sweat it too much because I had other things to worry about. I have to admit, I half expected the centerpieces to be boring yellow roses or something and not what I had envisioned at all, but when I walked into my reception, I was pleasantly surprised to see these cheery arrangements with beautiful Peruvian lilies nestled in mason jars. It wasn't what I envisioned at all, it was better! Not to mention, the flowers lasted the whole sweltering Arizona day (it was exceptionally hot that day) and when I visited my Mom a week later, she still had the flowers all around the house and they were still as alive as ever! She got extra use out of them when she brought them to decorate the church for a party the day after the wedding. I'm guessing if we had gotten daffodils they probably would have wilted before I got to the reception. If you are having a wedding in hot weather, Peruvian lilies are the way to go.

The bridesmaids bouquets were much more elaborate than what I expected. When i was talking with the florist, she said she could do a small bunch of gerbera daisies tied with a ribbon. I said, "yeah, that'll do". They ended up being a small bunch of gerberas accented with blue delphiniums and ivy. They were gorgeous.

The guys bouttonnieres made with small daisies turned out to be the perfect complement to their outfits, especially Marc's yellow tie.And the piece de resistance, my bouquet, just speaks for itself. Isn't it pretty????!!!!
